    When I joined the Air Force at 21 in 1971 there was a smart ass that was giving me hell about his ability to do regular pushups. I weighed only 156 and was extremely lean probably less than 7-8% bf. So I dropped and did 27 in excellent form, then 15 on my weaker side. I said now what? He hated my guts! It was awesome 😂

    I'm older and working out to stay fit. I cycle through different styles to prevent boredom...pyramid sets, 3x10 sets or tempo sets. As long as you're not going through the motions talking to friends while doing reps, you'll be fine.

    I have back pain in my hip/waist area that I have to lay down on my back to get rid of the pain. Half an hour later I am okay. But I am also falling down when I’m walking.     I've been doing abs for a while now, I do sets of 10 on the reverse incline with the incline maxed out and a 45lbs weight held overhead. I think this ab workout hit my abs better.

    Hi Jeff, or anyone that can help, I have a herniated disc that presses on the nerve in my lower spine. It is becoming more regular, and drops me like a stone then weeks of recovery after.     3 sets of 8-12 reps is for sleek muscles for endurance purposes like swimming or running. 5 sets X 5 reps is for bulk and Buffy beach looking.

    I do a lot of different jobs, most are physical and I really do need my nutrition or I'll struggle. Being able to rest muscles between training sessions sometimes isn't an option, but I learned to cope with that with more stretching. I never thought meditation would make a difference too but for some strange reason, but it does.

    I would pick the flat bench press. It emphasizes the middle of the chest the most, where we tend to have the most growth potential under heavy loads. It is also the most functional of the three movements.

    Doing 3 sets of 12 has worked for me so far. Its basic science. Shocking the muscles to cause the muscle to grow bigger and stronger. It won't work with just 1 set to failure.

    I tried this today for my push workout and applied it to all 3 muscle groups I love it My push workout sucks because even when i lower the volume it's a time killer This took me about 45 minutes total I just wonder how often to implement it. At what point should you switch back to something a little more normal like 4 sets (2 working), next exercise, add more weight to failure at 6-8 reps...

    I’m a big advocate of progressive overload. I start an exercise routine - say biceps - with a weight I can manage. I treat time spent on the exercise as my marker point as to when to gradually increase weight. For example, If I’m doing unilateral seated bicep curls, 4 sets, 15 reps, 25lbs, and I decrease the time doing that exercise even by a minute from the last time a did it, I increase the weight by 2 lbs., rinse and repeat. It may not work for everyone, but it works for me.

    There is no ONE way to do things. Being active and enjoying your efforts in the gym is #1!! Try different things - mix it up. There is usually no wrong way unless you're being reckless and stupid.
